Sonia Delaunay at Les Arts Décoratifs, Paris

A series of original textile designs by Sonia Delaunay are on view at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris, through 3 July 2012.  Donated by the artist herself in June 1966, this small but precious collection includes early designs for her Tissus Simultanés in the 1920s through the late 1940s.  A proponent of the ‘sensual song of color,’ these gorgeous gouaches demonstrate Delaunay’s originality and precocious modernity; the diamond shapes, stripes, and curves, boldly rendered in striking color combinations or graphic black and white, look as contemporary as ever.

Sonia Delaunay: Drawings in Color (1924-1949) , through 3 July 2012.  Below, a small selection of drawings included in the show.
