New York: The design team at Sonia by Sonia Rykiel suggested that their inspiration for Pre-Fall was Andy Warhol’s Factory, but volume and loungewear seemed to be the overriding themes. The team played with proportion, offering oversized sweaters, slouchy shorts, and baggy pants. A handful of slimmer looks balanced out the offering. Rykiel signatures made it into the mix, as well. Her stripes appeared in black and white this time, and a T-shirt that read “Bon soir” was a nod to her French heritage. The Warhol references were subtle; popping tones of orange and teal linked the looks to the artist’s paintings, while a silver Lurex knit lounge set evoked the famous interior of the Factory. Polka dots and leopard prints, in addition to butterfly-shaped paillettes, created a whimsical feeling that will appeal to the label’s youthful clientele.–Joanna Manganaro
