Somerset House has been home to a slew of great fashion and beauty exhibitions recently, from Hair by Sam McKnight: Celebrating 40 years of iconic hairstyles to Guy Bourdin‘s exhibition a few years back, to the most recent perfume exhibition that is definitely worth checking out this summer.
And now, Somerset House is set to be home to yet another eye-catching fashion exhibition, in collaboration with adidas. The new exhibition explores and celebrates the talented artists, photographers and designers from the north of England; think everyone from: photographer Alasdair McLellan and designer Gareth Pugh.
So much of the fashion dialogue in the UK focuses on London as a fashion hub, especially thanks to the twice yearly women’s fashion weeks and the twice yearly men’s fashion weeks, which take place in the capital. But this is only half the story, so much of the country’s rich design talent comes from all over the UK, and this new exhibition hopes to shed light on the talented fashion makers and doers who come from and are influenced by the land beyond London’s M25.
The exhibition will bring together a mix of contemporary photography as well as social documentary films, and fashion interviews conducted by SHOWstudio (SHOWstudio’s Lou Stoppard helped curate the exhibition), looking at life in the north of England, Northern identity and its influence on whole generations of photographers, artists and designers.
Exhibition visitors will also get the chance to see a brand new film from Alasdair McLellan called ‘Infinity’, in which he revisits the sites of his youth.
Launching on November 8th and running until 4 February 2018, this is the perfect exhibition to keep your fashion fix high between the spring/summer, and fall/winter shows.
