Sochi 2014 // The Opening Ceremonies

On Friday, February 7, the 2014 Winter Olympics kicked off in Sochi. The Opening Ceremony took place at Fisht Olympic Stadium, introducing the athletes participating in this years events and we couldn’t be more excited to tune in.

On Friday, February 7, the 2014 Winter Olympics kicked off in Sochi. The Opening Ceremony took place at Fisht Olympic Stadium, introducing the athletes participating in this years events and we couldn’t be more excited to tune in. As one of our favorite events in sports, the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics is always exciting to watch as it sets the stage for the following weeks of Olympic games. “Dreams of Russia” was the theme of the ceremony, as it contained an extravagant display of lights, music, and choreography.

Many countries worked with designers to fashion one-of-a-kind outfits created specifically for this night from a range of top designers and sportswear brands. Patriotic pride was the key influence for each of the team’s looks.

USA: Ralph Lauren – Patchwork cardigans with stars and stripes motifs, matching hats, cream colored turtlenecks, thick black boots with red laces.

Sweden: H&M – Layered look with cobalt as they key color. Asymmetric zipper creates a very modern, fashion-forward look. Hints of yellow and all-over print pants add a pop.

France: Lacoste – Sophisticated, tailored look. Blazer variation of a puffer coat, paired with khaki pants and color-blocked sweaters.

Tonga: Represented their country well, bringing a costal vibe to their outerwear. Palm tree motifs brought a fun, playful vibe to their look.

Russia: Bosco – Classic look with traditional Russian motifs and prints. Women wore long, down coats, trimmed with fur. Men wore double-breasted coats, with sheepskin trim.

Japan: Descente – Sleek look  in a white and navy palette with minimal, knee-length jackets.

Other team sponsors included Giorgio Armani (Italy), Fila (South Korea), Puma (Jamaica), Willy Bogner for Adidas (Germany), and Asics (Netherlands).
