Paris: Though not revolutionary in concept, Smalto’s F/W 11 offerings were distinct because of exquisite craftsmanship and elegant details. Designer Youn Chong Bak’s interpretations of classic items, like the pea coat and the shawl-collared sweater, were precisely executed to suit contemporary tastes. Slim silhouettes were complemented by narrow lapels and petite collars, and subtle tinted neutrals made a statement in monochromatic ensembles. Materials read richly: jackets were offered in sumptuous leathers, and fine winter-weight suitings looked soft and silken. Designs were timeless and investment-worthy, updated with a fresh approach to styling.
