SINGAPORE: Monocle opens Southeast Asia bureau, shop and cafe

Revered culture magazine Monocle has opened its new Singapore headquarters in the tranquil Chip Bee Gardens area. Located in a 1950s townhouse, the two-storey Monocle outpost stands in the midst of a botanic garden, where the leafy outdoor space is perfect for a good read with a latté from Allpress coffee. The new hub serves multiple roles complete with a retail space, mini cafe, bureau and radio studio under its belt. Sweeping through the 62 sq m groundfloor is Monocle’s offering of popular fashion and design in line with existing shops in London, New York, Toronto, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Brands stocked include the likes of Mackintosh, Esk travel clothing, PostalCo travel wallet, The Monocle Stationery collection, and Monocle’s own menswear capsule Monocle Voyage. Products exclusively for the Singapore and Southeast Asian audience include the Delfonics travel pouch, the special edition Monocle x Revo M24 black radio and the Monocle Poster Collection, designed in-house by the Monocle creative team. Monocle’s new annual publication, The Forecast, is displayed on its favourite Vitsoe shelves and the USM storage in this cosy Singapore home. The Monocle and Winkreative bureau are housed upstairs on the second storey, manned by acting Singapore bureau chief Jason Li. The 71 sq m area hosts an office, meeting room, lounge and fully soundproofed radio studio, allowing daily input of round-the-clock radio station Monocle 24. – Maria Mao Cui
