Last week we had the opportunity to head down to Sara D. Roosevelt Park here in New York City to catch a friendly celebrity soccer match for charity. Hosted by Steve Nash, with all proceeds benefiting the Steve Nash Foundation, The Showdown is an annual event put on by Nash in order to raise funds for critical needs services for children. Our friends at Kappa USA invited us down for some steller seats to watch some of our favorite NBA and professional soccer elite go head to head.

“NBA stars. Soccer’s best. An urban field. A sweet 8-a-side game of futbol in the middle of a city, benefiting children everywhere. Steve brings his passion to play in this innovative soccer match that any sports fan will love. Showcasing athletes from two sports, and raising funds for critical needs services for kids, Showdown is the beautiful game at its most creative.”

Fans gathered to catch the fun which included booths from sponsors, prize giveaways and even athletes like Baron Davis in the crowd to take in the action. Kappa USA was the official sponsor of uniforms, seperating onto the Red Team (USA) and the Blue Team (World).

Team Blue (World): Simone Sandri (Showdown Co-Founder), Steve Nash (Showdown Co-Founder and LA Laker), Massimo Ambrosini (AC Milan), Giuseppe Rossi (Fiorentina), Emmerson Boyce (Wigan), Marco Belinelli (Chicago Bulls), Mikel Alonso (Liga Veteran)

Team Red (USA): Stuart Holden (Bolton), Oguchi Onyewu (Malaga CF), Rod Fanni (Olympique de Marseille), Sacha Kliestan (Anderlecht), Joakim Noah (Chicago Bulls), Sammy Amoebi (Newcastle)

Thanks again to the team at Kappa USA for having us down. It was a great afternoon, and an even better cause. Keep an eye out for the West Coast game taking place in LA on July 14th, 2013 and here in New York again this summer on July 20th-22nd 2013 for when the Street Soccer USA Cup Series takes over Times Square!
