We always think of the contemporary art world as a source of inspiration here at Stylesight – so we were pleased but not surprised when quite a few designers decided to work contemporary art touches into their collections for Spring 2008. Modern art influences on RTW in the recent past seem to have fallen into a few predictable categories – graffiti and Pop Art influences ad nauseam. For Spring ’08 however, the art world influences were both far more varied and incorporated in a more seamless fashion. See below for some of my favorite pieces that I found while looking at all of the runway photos on Stylesight.

I thought the Prada collection was a great example of how to use an art influence in a seamless and romantic fashion. The two dresses above combine the feel of trippy, 70’s Ralph Bakshi animation with a romantic Art Nouveau Toulouse-Lautrec illustration.

I love the bags that Marc Jacobs and illustrator/photographer Richard Prince collaborated on for Louis Vuitton.
