The latest venture from Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Mercato is an exercise in “farm chic,” featuring a minimalist decor that highlights the space’s antique steel frame, and a menu full of freshness. One of six dining options housed inside of department store Three on the Bund, Mercato specializes in coastal Italian fare with modern touches, in addition to perfectly charred wood-fired pizzas and specialty cocktails. All dishes, from the house-made lobster ravioli to the suckling pig confit are presented family style, for a laidback, communal experience. This stunning new restaurant is one of the best places in Shanghai to relax, offering amazing views of The Bund and seriously tasty yet totally upscale comfort food.—Ashley Churchill
