As China’s leading industry event, Shanghai Fashion Week continues to grow, evolve and expand.
Comprised of the main Shanghai Fashion Week, SIFS (Shanghai International Fashion Showcase), Labelhood, Tube Showroom, Ontimeshow presentations and Fashion of Balian shows, the A/W 18/19 season is one of the busiest and most comprehensive to date.
Here’s a recap of the shows to know that received buzz in China’s fashion industry.
Part of the Labelhood fashion shows, SHUSHU/TONG’s feminine and culturally inspired collection was well received for its beautiful design. The vintage inspired aesthetic continued to bear her signature bow detailing. This season she also collaborated with YVMIN a well known independent jewellery designer which added an extra oomph to the show’s overall styling.
Her literary inspirations included female authors Jane Austen and Virginia Woolf and pop culture references to the retro styles of Mad Men and the ever iconic The Royal Tenenbaums.
Angel Chen’s performance-focused presentation drew on the current popularity of dance shows in China, and generated plenty of social buzz online for its nod to street culture. Dance battles were part of the show and included street dancer Xiao Bai (with over 120,000 followers on Weibo), along with internationally-known dancer and choreographer Jawn Ha.
Organised by DIA Creative Communications as part of Tube Showroom, a series of fashion show/opening party hybrids were held at venues in Found 158. STAFFONLY’s show, for instance, was held at club TAXX, and the experience included Parkour which was integrated into the catwalk.
Xiamen-based Vega Zaishi Wang held her first fashion show in Shanghai as part of Ontimeshow. Her outerwear and use of bold, energetic red held the attention of Shanghai Fashion Week attendees and we’ll certainly be keeping a close eye on this emerging talent.
