20,000 women across the nation gathered this past Sunday for Nike’s 7th Annual Women’s Marathon located in San Francisco, CA. This being known as the third largest half marathon in the world, the Bay Area was packed with ladies looking to get their run on.
To kick-off the marathon excitement, Nike featured an “Expotique” in the heart of Union Square where registered runners could pick up their bib numbers, wristbands and goodie bags. Free smoothies and foot massages were also available for the ladies gearing up for the marathon.
Starting at 5:30 AM, runners were lined up ready to hit the road with their “I RUN TO BE” attitudes. By 7:00 AM, these women were ready to brave the elements of wind and rain by running the hills of San Francisco. The course led them first through the financial district, then down to Fisherman’s Wharf, famous Pier 39 and ending right along the Pacific with picturesque views along the way, tempting some to stop and take pictures.
To end the race, women were handed the 2010 finishing necklace by Tiffany & Co. featuring the slogan “I RUN TO BE”. Not only were they served on silver platters, but also handed out by the Bay Area firefighters in tuxedos.
