Here at Stylesight we continue to countdown the days until the Start of World Cup 2010 (it’s 36 in case you were wondering!) World Cup launches and releases continue to amaze us, this time around they seem to be taking cues from the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, by focusing on the sexier side of soccer for both WAGs and athletes.
WAG: is an acronym used particularly by the British Tabloid press to describe wives and girlfriends of high profile players. This Term came to prominence during England’s run in the 2006 World Cup. WAGs -> Wives and Girlfriends.
With that in mind, Umbro has carted out some of the sexiest WAGs on the planet to help launch its SEVEN CHAMPIONS line of shirts representing the Seven Past champions of the World Cup. Each of the seven shirts was thoughtfully designed and pared with a model of corresponding nationality.
Umbro has posted some detailed shots on their blog of the crests designed for each jersey. “A mixture of graffiti artists, cartoonists, tattoo designers, record label owners, illustrators and club night innovators have been hand picked to represent their countries by redesigning their national crest”. They also made a behind the scenes video to document the shoot and give fans the inside scope on their favorite ladies… looks like a good time to us.
Uruguay – Martin Albornoz
Brazil – Fernando Chamarelli
England – Ben Eine
Argentina – ZZK Records
Italy – Tanino Liberatore
Germany – Marok
France – André
Vanity Fair has also gone the sexy soccer route for the cover of its June issue. Annie Leibovitz shot athletes Didier Drogba of the Ivory Coast and Cristiano Ronaldo sporting next to nothing except their countries colors.
The issue itself features shots of other world stars and an accompanying article which explains just how important the World Cup is to the global community. Even in 2010, the folks on Madison Ave. may not be completely familiar with all the athletes that are playing, they can certainly appreciate the value of a rippling set of abs.
Just as with our sexy wags earlier, Vanity Fair has been kind enough to provide a behind the scenes look at the photo shoot. Also, check out their football blog Fair Play.
