London: “An elegant and ladylike urban warrior” is how Sarah-Jane Clarke described Sass & Bide’s woman for F/W 11. Clarke and co-designer Heidi Middleton have been playing with the warrior image recently (see spring’s chunky copper corset belts), but this season, they sent their tough city girl on a trip around the world. African mud cloth motifs, Japanese shiburi tie-dyes and Indonesian batik appeared alongside a colorful version of classic plaid and glam animal prints. The eclectic mix of print and pattern was held together with elegant drapery and simple shapes. Cropped pants, mini-skirts, boxy tops and long slit skirts were appealing and approachable, and fluid jackets were a highlight. Sass & Bide’s urban warrior had quite the trip, and it looked like she had a great time.
