The 31st season of São Paulo Fashion Week started on Monday, as Ibirapuera Park’s Bienal Pavillion opened its doors for the projected 700,000 guests that will turn up for the event’s thirty-five runway shows. Notable shows this season include newcomer Paula Raia, Pedro Lourenço and a presentation of Mario Queiroz’s first-ever collection for women. Raquel Zimmermann, Alessandra Ambrósio, Caroline Trentini, Solange Wilvert, and the androgynous Andrej Pejic are among the big-name models expected to walk the runway, along with actor Ashton Kutcher, who will be modeling for Colcci.
Sponsored by SPFW and chain retailer C&A, two art exhibitions are also running in conjunction with Fashion Week. “Pretty Much Everything” from Dutch fashion photographer duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin showcases over 250 photographs from the couple’s archive. The second exhibit will display selections from artist Ruud van Empel, who uses Photoshop to incorporate hyperrealism and fantasy into his works. São Paulo Fashion Week will run through Saturday, June 18th.
