Salvatore Ferragamo

Milan: A certain detached slickness defined this week’s Salvatore Ferragamo show, a mood established by sharp suiting with a subtly reflective finish as well as serious eyeglasses, tightly cinched trench coats and attaché folders. Designer Massimiliano Giornetti carried these film noir elements through to the end of the presentation, infused with a little James Bond-style practical elegance in the form of leather pouch belts paired with pieced cashmere turtlenecks, or precisely cut velvet tux jackets. A few of the showier pieces broke the spell, like a dove grey astrakhan coat, but were too beautiful to ruin the collection’s mystery. —Nina Stotler
