New York: Up-and-comers Sally Lapointe and her partner Sarah Adelson are onto something this season with their first major runway event during fashion week. The new line, formed by the RISD grads and best friends, manages to seamlessly blend futurism and nostalgia for a refreshing take on what could have potentially veered towards the contrived. Right in step with the key trends of the seasons, Lapointe’s shapes, namely wide flared pants and floor sweeping maxis, have a vague 1970s feel. But rather than delving too much into the days of disco, mirrored Rorschach-inspired graphics, iridescent finishes, and a healthy mix of shiny and sheer fabrics keep the looks sleek and progressive.
