Sacai S/S 2013

ON THE FLIP SIDE
Paris: Call it business in the front, party in the back. Sacai’s Chitose Abe cheekily played with differing front and back views for her spring collection. What looked like a skirt from the front was actually a pair of shorts with an attached front panel, and what looked like a simple, flat-front pant or walking short became a billowing version of itself in the back. Ruffles erupted from the back of a plain heather grey sweatshirt, and a cardigan featured a sheer back panel. Though now enhanced with complex piecing, Abe’s schoolgirl separates remained mostly the same. The sweet A-line dresses, pleated skirts and button-up shirts were still in heavy rotation, providing the offering with the charm for which the label is known. –Joanna Manganaro
