Runway Update: Intimates + Swim

From L to R: Yigal Azrouel, Peter Som, Samantha Pleet, Tommy Hilfiger, Ruffian

New York: Intimates and swimwear continued to be well-represented for S/S 2012 at this weekend’s shows. The ladylike trend in both categories showed no signs of stopping, as designers showcased high-waisted bottoms, sweetheart tops and prim cover ups. On a more contemporary note, high-necked suits continued to make waves, while plunging necklines brought a sensual edge to minimalist maillots.

One designer to note is London-based Mark Fast, who presented his diffusion line, Faster, at NYFW. Known for seamless knit body-con dresses, Fast has taken his unique aesthetic in a more appropriate lingerie direction with Faster. Underbust bodysuits, bralettes, skin-tight slips and leggings engineered with mesh-like sections provide an inspiring, modern take on the emerging bodywear sector.
