Although the major runway season is over, burgeoning style meccas around the world are showcasing local talent in their own fashion weeks. Madrid Fashion Week is one that is quickly gaining notoriety, boasting such names as Davidelfin, Adolfo Dominguez and luxury intimates/swim label Andres Sarda.
Inspired by the Mediterranean Sea, Andres Sarda channeled three pillars of classical civilization for S/S 2012: Greece, Rome and Egypt. Pastel blues and yellows captured the Grecian morning, transitioning into flowing toga-inspired cover-ups and the Roman Empire at dusk. Breton stripes and chunky golden accessories accented the traditional silhouettes. After the fall of Rome, Egypt in the night materialized. Oasis green maillots and chainmail-like overlays on blood red bikinis referenced the opulence of the pharaohs. One of our favorites, a Lurex crochet bikini lined with black tricot, would be a perfect fit for a modern-day Cleopatra.
