Trends usually trickle down from ready-to-wear to intimate apparel, but in the case of Marc Jacob’s latest collection for Louis Vuitton, the exchange happened in the reverse. Just as it looked like bondage was on its way out, or at least softening up a bit, Jacobs came back with a bold fetish-inspired collection filled with leather, black lace and strappy contraptions. “Hot pants” and bodices were created out of a lattice-work configuration of faggotting trim; a glossy lacquer gave elegant guipures a kinky edge; and the ever-popular French maid materialized in starched white bibs and sweet Peter Pan collars. The provocative collection had an air of the seedy Berlin underground that reminded us of the 1974 cult classic The Night Porter. We break down the whole collection here in Stylesight’s Daily Chronicles.
Speaking of The Night Porter, the movie seems to be in the zeitgeist as of late, as illustrated in this recent Vogue Russia editorial shot by fashion darling Hedi Slimane. So check your propriety at the door, fetish looks to be here to stay.
