Plenty of denim inspiration from the London catwalks from silhouette to styling and details, here are the best shows:
Acne, showing for the second season in London, previewed an inspiring collection of utilitarian workwear looks, all in muted indigo pales. Taking the patch and repair story and re-working it with a modern, graphic look, the collection was clean yet feminine. Key items include the coverall and the railroad style jacket. Always a fun collection, Ashish presented a ‘grunge-luxe’ runway accompanied by ripped and zipped drainpipe jeans. The collection was inspired by the archetypal poor little rich girl from a country estate slumming it in East London. With the current themes of penniless students, race riots, conspicuous consumption, social class wars and punk thrown into the mix, it made for a rich mix of looks and was a London favorite. Jena Theo is a new brand on the block, founded in February 2009 by Jenny Holmes and Dimitris Theocharidi. Jenny works on voluminous and challenging pattern cutting whilst Dimitris focuses on the silhouette and delicate tailoring. The runway collection, based on Norse mythology was an excellent example of proportion play with voluminous and draped denim pieces and peg-leg and heavily stacked skinnies in shades of green cast indigos. Paul Smith channeled a relaxed, downtown feel that was in line with the style of the collection’s muse, punk rock priestess Patti Smith. The collection didn’t contain a whole lot of denim but what did feature confirmed that the loose, rounded boyfriend fit is here to stay for next fall: executed with perfect Paul Smith tomboy styling, the silhouette looked as perfect as an old favorite you love to love.
