“Picasso in Black and White,” recently on view at New York’s Guggenheim Museum, was specifically named as an inspiration at Helmut Lang, but seemed to influence other designers as well. An evolution from last season’s Bauhaus undertones, these geometric, often-asymmetric Cubist looks get a tough city edge from motorcycle details, pops of IKB blue and flame orange, and a confident, swaggering attitude. – Sharon Graubard
