Royal Elastics

Royal Elastics are not newbies in the footwear game.  Having been established in 1996 by two Australian teens, they have since gone through an acquisition and dissolution, and through this hardship have evolved considerably.  The brand has been given new life and their core aesthetic and philosophy is seen clearly in their latest collections, branching out into a more fashionable, upscale realm of footwear.  Creative director John Bondoc describes as “a new take on being intelligently ‘post-modern’ and ‘heritage’ all at the same time…This kind of irreverence, shooting from the hip and retro-modern thinking is very much Royal Elastics.  The result is a contemporary, fashion-relevant and street-relevant product.”

The gentlemen at Royal Elastics were kind enough to send us a copy of their S/S 12 look book, and below are some of our favorite selections.

Royal Elastics’ core DNA lies in the original idea that helped launch the brand:  there is “no time for laces” and great sneakers don’t need laces to be comfortable and secure.  The concept has taken the brand into a recognizable status with their key elasticated lacing and slip-on functionality.

Their summer collection elaborates on the functionality aspect of their roster with round toe desert boots (always with their elastic fastenings) on vulcanized soles.  Classic court sneakers port contrast embroidered logos and outsoles, probably the most iconic of their line-up.  The stand-out item has to be their cross-over into traditional items such as the wingtip, with the striped upper, paneled open lacing detail and matching cap toe.

With the prominent “sport casual” footwear trend at a high, we look forward to what the Royal Elastics team will bring to the table with their future collections.  – Jenn Tello
