As an ancient city filled with stunning historical monuments, Rome isn’t often called out for its innovative use of space, preferring to keep things to the status quo. But at least one building is being used in a modern fashion: Lanificio 159, an airy multi-purpose playground for grown-ups housed in an old mill. With a music venue, a lounge, a performing arts center, a restaurant, an art gallery and an urban garden, this unique and massive location seeks to be a sustainable spot. If you’re in Rome and want to see something other than the usual tourist destinations, make a point to check out the lovely Lanificio 159. — Ashley Churchill
