On view at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni is yet another dedicated retrospective to one of the most preeminent photographers of the 20th century. Helmut Newton’s provocative images have been published time and time again, gracing the pages of U.S. and Italian Vogue, Playboy, and Spiegel. But most importantly, these works were compiled into three legendary books: White Women, Sleepless Nights, and Big Nudes. Naturally, this exhibition blends all three (hence its name) to showcase Newton’s impact on both fashion and photography. White Women visually eroticizes fashion, while the Sleepless Nights series focuses on women, their bodies and their clothes – or lack thereof. Big Nudes delves into a life-size, but more personal portrayal of his models. Also on view is a smaller series featuring half-naked models wearing leather Hèrmes saddles. On view through the end of July, this Helmut Newton tribute explores his provocative stance and erotic portrayal of fashion and the feminine. –Sarah Ryan Hecht
