Roland Mouret

Paris: No matter the season, one can always expect to find a crop of sensuous, sophisticated sheaths in Roland Mouret’s collection. Fall was no different as the designer offered up variations in fabrics ranging from silk jersey to a wool crepe and silhouettes from mini to midi. One thing that has changed from season to season is Mouret’s emerging sense of ease. Instead of the rigid origami of his early work, his dresses now have a natural fluidity with folds and tucks that seem captured in a windblown state. This season, Mouret found a fitting muse for his more laid-back sensibilities in Woody Allen’s Manhattan-based movies. Tweed baseball jackets and heathered cardigans alluded to Allen’s own rumpled persona, while high-waisted trousers and flowy bow halters were a glam update on Annie Hall’s iconic look. It looks like sportswear has evolved from an area of experimentation to expertise for Mouret, as these pieces were just as appealing as his signature dresses.
