Paris: It was with an intimate touch that Alessandro Dell’Acqua presented his Pre-Summer ‘16 collection in New York – this portrait of intimacy was apparent throughout the lineup. Dell’Acqua was inspired by Dame Margot Fonteyn, the prima ballerina who was regarded as one of the greatest classical dancers, infused his designs with all the delicacy of Swan Lake. Exquisite lace, macramé, and silks were cut in simple shapes but cleverly pieced, creating dimensional plays on volume. The dancer’s “lightness, freedom and femininity is very important to Rochas,” Dell’Acqua said. The re- interpretations of a tulle tutu played back with a fine silk sweater was modern and incredibly chic. Frills and plisse also gave a nod to the ballerina’s dance wear but it was the dancer prints that pirouetted across tailored shorts and Pyjama pants that added to the sweetness of the collection. A welcome break came in the tweed jackets and sweaters that were casually teamed with silk cloqué and georgettes – so very lovely. – Lizzy Bowring
