New York: For Rochas’ C/R 12 collection, designer Marco Zanini was aiming for “Something cheerful but not girly,” and his one word description of this season’s aesthetic was “naïveté”. The collection’s child-like proportions, mostly pastel palette and playful styling definitely felt naive as well as cheerful – but was also still somewhat girly. While oversized dresses with dropped waists and suit jackets with intentionally too-big shoulders dwarfed this season’s youthful model, her lankiness was accentuated by high-water trousers. Peter Pan collars, ancient Roman-style halos constructed out of hearts, and flower motifs were sweet touches, while clunky granny sandals added eccentricity. –Whitney Kessler
