Milan: After last season’s 40th anniversary extravaganza, Cavalli returned to one of his favorite muses, the rich hippie-gypsy. This season she was all about leopard print and exotic skins – more often than not, she wore them together. Layering was key, as in the piling on of three chiffon tops. Embellished pieces such as gowns covered in appliqués were a play between texture and decoration. Jackets appeared in a variety of leathers and skins, but all were cut short and boxy. Printed silk scarves were the key accessory and appeared over everything from pants to evening gowns. In light of all this extravagance, Cavalli sensibly restricted himself to a controlled palette of golds, blacks, blues, and purples. There was a lot to absorb but taken as individual pieces, the collection displayed remarkable technical dexterity.
