River Island plans to unveil a plus-size range in March, called RI Plus, which will include pieces in sizes 18 to 24.
Initially available in top stores and online, the range will include styles from all areas of the retailer’s offer, including core basics, denim, workwear and partywear. Prices will range from £6 to £80.
Marketing director Josie Roscop said: “We’re excited about giving great fashion to more women, we feel this is the right time for the brand to expand our size range offering. Ultimately, it’s about fashion and being inclusive.”
Plus-size model Candice Huffine will front the campaign. Huffine made history when she became the first plus size model to feature in the latest Pirelli Calendar and has featured in V, W and has graced the covers of i-D and Italian Vogue.
“It is great that womenswear brands are actively celebrating the fuller figure. This change is being felt both on the high street and within the high end fashion market, with Beth Ditto launching a line with Jean Paul Gautier this week too,” says WGSN Womenswear Associate Editor Laura Yiannakou.
