Currently on display at the Hong Kong Museum of Art and sponsored by the Fondation Louis Vuitton pour la Creation, “A Passion For Creation” features works from Louis Vuitton’s private collection of contemporary art and design. As a special commission for the event, Richard Prince has wrapped the museum building’s exterior with enlarged images from pulp-fiction novels, as an extension of his “Hong Kong After Dark” series. The building is covered with printed fabric created by “rephotography,” a process Prince describes as “resemblance more than reproduction. A rephotograph is essentially an appropriation of what’s already real about an existing image and an attempt to add onto something more real — a virtuoso reality.” The show will run until August 9 as part of Hong Kong’s annual French May Arts Festival.
