HONEST TO MODERN
London: Sporty and to-the-point, Richard Nicoll characterized his S/S 13 collection as “believable” and “honest,” two adjectives which rang true for these wonderfully sleek, urban pieces. From boxy cotton t-shirt dresses with mesh insets and underskirts to monochrome patchwork blouson jackets in a nubby poplin, the ensembles had a wearable and realistic feeling, but remained fashion-forward due to an acidic pastel palette. Combining a faint grid print with panels of grey marl jersey, Nicoll employed colorblocking techniques, while even the ubiquitous peplum top seemed fresh in his minimalist hands. Although much of the presentation was casual, it ended on a dramatic turn with high-shine taffeta dresses embellished with voluminous parachute tails.—Nina Stotler
