Richard Chai Love

New York: Richard Chai’s Spring concept of lightness was filtered through a sporty lens for the Love collection, and nearly every piece, from fit-and-flare dresses to color-blocked nylon coats, revealed an activewear influence. Zippy little a-line miniskirts were the most prominent key item, often paired with halter bralettes or fitted neoprene t-shirts, while indigo cotton denim looked youthful as an elongated anorak. Subtle sparkling paillette embellishments were nearly lost among Chai’s whitewashed palette, but a multi-dimensional hologram lurex in olive and mauve grounded a series of very cool evening ensembles. Trend-conscious and fresh, S/S 13 successfully struck a wearable yet energetic tone.—Nina Stotler
