INTO THE BLUE
New York: Considering how relevant Richard Chai’s signature soft grunge aesthetic has been to overall runway trends this season, it’s not surprising that the designer’s own collection feels especially appealing. Chai brought back his trademark boy-meets-girl styling, relaxed fits and languid silhouettes, and like other C/R 12 collections, he offered lounge bottoms, drop-waists and high-low hems. Watery blue hues and dreamy patterns updated garments; subtle surprises came from fabric with woven-in ombré shading that looked dip-dyed and a celestial motif that was crossed with a floral. Hair was appropriately wet and slicked back, and intense lips added feminine drama. –Whitney Kessler
