New York: For S/S 12, Richard Chai incorporated energetic colors, futuristic patterns and peppy feminine silhouettes into his trademark grunge looks. Uninhibited styling and beauty felt happy and fun, but ensembles retained the casual-cool vibe that Chai’s clothes are known for. Dresses and skirts were layered over skinny pants and shorts; some pants even had front-panel kilt attachments. Masculine outerwear and boyish camp shirts balanced girly skirts and elegant drapery, while geometric cutouts were modernly seductive. –Whitney Kessler
