Resort Rundown: D.I.Y. Dior

Every year designers present their Resort/Cruise collections, meant to be worn by the rich as they jet-set around the world looking fabulous and avoiding winter’s clutches. No matter the designer, resort wear is known for being more accessible and wearable than its Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter counterparts, so it’s not a place for risk-taking, crazy makeup or anything overly ornate. True to form, Dior’s resident mustachioed madman/creative head John Galliano went ahead and incorporated all of those elements into his recent ‘60s meets Shangri-la inspired show, where the clothes were dripping with decadence but the accessories were totally D.I.Y. To help you re-create the Galliano Girl look, Stylesight’s Beauty and Accessory categories are chock full of close-cropped images from what’s sure to be Resort’s most craftily colorful collection.

After a night of partying, mornings can be a real drag. Throw on a pair of retro inspired sunglasses with bright frames and dark shades to fight the day and, when your hangover subsides, to hit the beach!

Models are paid to look pretty and walk without falling down. That said, these shoes made more than one girl taste the runway. Be safe and get yourself a different pair of sky-high heels, but feel free to adorn your ankles with bracelets!

It’s a necklace, it’s a hair ornament, it’s a bracelet! Whatever it is, it’s totally D.I.Y. and I love it! Throughout the collection, Galliano’s Girls sported multi-tasking costume jewelry. If your Grandmother can’t be tapped, items like these are easily found at your local thrift or antique store.

Giant chandelier earrings, weird topknots and false lashes are the stuff of dreams for a Galliano Girl. Experiment with bold shadow choices such as yellow, orange and sky-blue but don’t skimp on the liquid liner. For lips, stick to matte nudes, light pinks or glossy orange-tints and keep blush to a minimum.

Only John Galliano could convince me that animal print scarves and pearl necklaces pair well with bikinis and that gigantic floppy hats are totally chic. Can you argue with him? Look at these haughty ladies and their fashionable sun protection!

With your nails on full display, Galliano Girls know that nothing pairs better with a beautiful clutch than a French manicure. Unless that French manicure features hot pink and orange polish, and then it’s way better!
