It had to happen – if there’s a gap it will be filled and next week the Colette-sized hole in Paris will be (at least partly) plugged by a new store. It’s being launched by some ex-Colette senior staffers after the famous Paris concept store closed the doors on a 20-year existence late last month.
What’s interesting for this new shop is that it won’t be about high fashion or womenswear. Instead all those other categories with which Colette made an impact – books, watches, technology – plus a fashion element through streetwear, trainers and eyewear will be the focus.
Called Nous, the new 150 sq m store will open on rue Cambon on Monday and is the brainchild of Colette’s former head of tech/watches Sébastien Chapelle and Marvin Dein who ran the trainer department, among others.
The location means it should be able to take advantage of the same stream of tourists and locals who made Colette a must-see destination over the course of two decades. It’s likely to get plenty of attention at launch and given the presence of the former Colette staff, we should be able to expect an impressive taste level.
Whether it can make the transition to being a Paris landmark as Colette was is a big question that only time will answer.
