New York: Reed Krakoff’s label has taken off in the short year it has been in business, thanks in part to the support of Coach, for which Mr. Krakoff is creative director. He has opened two stand-alone stores, released a perfume and captured the attention of fashion followers worldwide with his sumptuous minimalist designs. This season, Krakoff merged the tactile, crafty feel of his first collection with last season’s techno vibe. The lacquered leathers of spring returned, but this time were toned down with wool panels. Grey flannel and dense matte wool were pieced with shiny silver satin adding a futuristic edge to a simple boxy jacket that recalled the work of Coach founder Bonnie Cashin. Though short, tight dresses with low-slung belts were perhaps an odd fit, chunky sweaters, fine ribbed Merino knits, wrap skirts and wide-leg trousers looked right, and teddy bear coats and jackets lent plush texture and low-key luxury to the looks.
