Since it launched in 1937, the Ray-Ban® aviator has gone on to become as synonymous with “cool” as rock ‘n’ roll. It was only fitting, then, for one of rock’s biggest legends, Iggy Pop, to headline the “re-launch” party for the classic frames. Much like the iconic brand, Iggy & The Stooges proved their staying power last night at the Music Hall of Williamsburg to an enthusiastic crowd of fans as diverse as Ray-Ban® customers. New bands The Virgins and Free Energy were also on hand for the festivities, as were celebrities from Chloë Sevigny to Juliette Lewis. Ray-Ban® will be holding a similar celebration in London on May 26 with a performance from punk innovators New York Dolls and a DJ set from Jarvis Cocker. The re-launched collection, Ray-Ban Aviator: The Essentials, features six enticing variations on the original, from fun color updates to luxurious gold limited edition versions, and will be available starting June 2010 at Sunglass Hut stores.
