The brief challenged the participants to design a fresh interior system that would “encourage shoppers to engage with boutique clothing and provide an inspirational and stimulating customer experience.”
On the strength of his experience as a Junior Designer at Universal Design Studio, Rob’s concept wins in both space and experience design: built around a modular triangular ceiling, this design allows all display systems to be detached from the ground and stay suspended, able to change the shop layout easily according to the collections turnover.
“The initial concept was an idea of cause and effect, giving importance to the elements of hanging and balance. The design needed to enhance and give prominence to the detail of the clothing, while also being a functional and interesting space to shop and browse.” This is how Vinall describes his approach.
To enhance this inverted top-heavy concept, mirror walls are painted in gradation and match the color choice of the triangular structure. Moreover, this dynamic, rational geometry entices the customer to browse around and follow the grid, moving further into the store.
London Fashion Week launches February 15th, and according to Topshop there is potential for the winning concept to be used in further installations. – Gemma Riberti
