Just before Milan fashion week each season, the accessories tradeshow duo of Micam and Mipel transform the city’s Rho-Fiera exhibition center into a hive of international trade, buzzing with activity as buyers and press arrive from around the globe to check out local Italian designers and world-renowned brands. For exhibiting designers and show attendees, the Mipel bag show also offers a unique shopping opportunity to snap up rare vintage accessories thanks to the indefatigable eye of Bologna-based vintage dealer Luigi Artuso and his showroom, Vintage Art. The company temporarily departs from their brick-and-mortar archive in Emilia-Romagna to set up shop each season at Mipel, offering international visitors the rare chance to peruse an excellent selection of bags, belts, shoes, scarves and more from throughout the 20th century: hardware, material, and shape inspiration abounds in this small patch of tradeshow real estate.
And for those who can’t make it to Mipel next season, never fear- the Vintage Art showroom is open by appointment for shopping or rental inquiries [though if you missed Mipel, might be a must-see during the upcoming Lineapelle]. Vintage Art also maintains a stand every weekend at Bologna-based flea market, il Mercato di Piazza VIII Agosto, in Montagnola.
Below, a series of our favorites spotted this session.
