Raf Simons

Paris: Raf Simons went against the grain for F/W 12, producing a new baggy silhouette as an alternative to the fitted suiting appearing this month. Simons’ quilted nylon overcoats, elongated double-breasted blazers and loose shirting that doubled as outerwear provided an interesting foil to his tapered schoolboy shorts with slouchy pockets. This youthful message carried over into chunky sneakers paired with ankle socks, rainbow-hued skater hair, and cable knit hats which existed somewhere between a cloche and a skullcap. In addition to the casual fits, mixing grey and navy with neon chartreuse, cobalt, cranberry and forest green was a progressive palette choice, as were strips of dyed hair extensions tacked to the back of sweaters and jackets.—Nina Stotler
