New York: Rachel Comey pushed aside her usual vintage-inspired designs in favor of a cleaner, minimalist look for Pre-Fall. The result was a sophisticated mix of boxy shells, simple dresses, and slouchy bottoms. The first look, a sleeveless jumpsuit with a tuxedo collar, signaled a menswear inspiration that popped up throughout the collection. Shorts and pants alike appeared with a dropped crotch, and tops tended to stand away from the body. Comey jokingly suggested in an interview that the birth of her second child and its effects on her body inspired her to play with these roomier shapes. The new silhouettes worked well with the minimalist elements, and the total look projected a sense of professionalism. The cool Comey girl just landed her first professional gig. The designer has been particularly successful with footwear, and this season’s shoes were an excellent offering. Perfectly simple boots in a variety of heights are sure to fly off the shelves.–Joanna Manganaro
