Queen For A Day

Milan…Gianfranco Ferre

This design duo synthesized the essences of two favorite time periods to create the unique look of their recent collection, the Elizabethan era and the not-so-distant 1980’s. “It is a very positive association for us,” said designer Roberto Rimondi of this period that so many designers have referenced this season. “It’s when we were young.” The ruffles were featured simply because they “… loved the Cate Blanchett movie.” In looks that were almost completely black, two major design details stood out in almost every look: wide shoulders and high-standing ruffled collars. Texture came through on a mix of surfaces like alpaca coats and cashmere sweaters with bouclé and crystal appliqués. Ruffled silk tops were tucked into carrot-shaped duchesse satin trousers. Velvet combined with fur on outerwear and was belted with copper bow buckles.
