Uruguay’s Punta del Este region is fast becoming the South American Riviera, complete with ritzy, high-priced hotels that offer little in the way of charm. But in neighboring beach town La Barra, local antique store owner Aaron Hojman is doing his best to combat this trend, opening the delightful, six-room Casa Zinc. Furnished entirely from auction houses and estate sales, this uniquely elegant boutique hotel is all about preservation rather than restoration, with perfectly peeled paint and cracked leather furniture in lieu of generic interiors. Each room is completely different, but all will make for a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of Punta del Este. —Ashley Churchill
