New York: Proenza Schouler’s interim collections always seem to include sportier elements than their regular spring and fall presentations, featuring practical, wearable silhouettes and detailing. Pre-Fall looked even more robust than usual, combining a rich jewel tone palette and sturdy fabrics such as tweed with activewear items like windbreakers and drawstring sheath dresses. Layering was key here, most often executed in a tonal accumulation of boxy or slim fit separates, their textures a contrast of shiny nylon, nubby wool and paneled quilting. But despite all the luxury sport references, the designers didn’t abandon their cult following, deepening desire for classics like bustier top dresses by updating them with arty, topographical photo prints and mesh overlay. —Nina Stotler
