New York: Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough’s inspiration for S/S 13 was a subject perhaps more important than any other in the modern world – the Internet. While accelerating our lives and possibly fracturing our minds, the world wide web’s random nature made the Proenza Schouler designers focus on pixels and patchwork, funneling these ideas into splintered leather colorblocking and blurred dot patterns. Our brave new surveillance society also made an impact on Hernandez and McCollough, expertly represented as cut-up photo prints which seemed sourced directly from Google Earth. With leather mesh, distressed brocade and grommet cutouts, craft met technology and the label pushed their innovative vision to the limit, challenging their fans by holding up the mirror of fashion to the invisible universe of technology swirling around us.—Nina Stotler
