Every girl’s fantasy growing up is that she will one day become a princess by marrying a prince. That dream is coming true for one lucky Kate Middleton, but it could also a little more real for the rest of us, thanks to one accomodating artist.
Drawing on inspiration from the media frenzy surrounding the recent royal engagement, artist Jennifer Rubell’s “Engagement” invites visitors to play princess. The installation includes a life-like wax figure of the dashing Prince William, complete with a “head-in-the-hole” interactive portion: visitors can cozy up to the prince and try on the sapphire and diamond engagement ring for size.
Struck by the image of the prince and his fiancée, Rubell decided to create a life-like version, allowing viewers to touch the sculpture and transgress normally imposed physical boundaries of art.
