High above the Bowery in the New Museum’s Sky Room last week, New York-based lingerie label Zinke debuted their swimwear line in a spirited, summer-themed soireé. Ever since we caught our first glimpse of Zinke two years ago at Curve, we’ve been huge fans of their contemporary take on “loungerie,” which manages to be, at once, fuss-free and feminine. We’ve been thrilled to see the line grow creatively and commercially, becoming a fixture in some of the most prestigious stores in the market.
Now with the launch of the swim collection, the Zinke girl can be just as chic on the beach as she is in the boudoir. Like the lingerie, swimsuits have a modern sensibility with their clean lines and effortless ethos, yet an undercurrent of retro inspiration – the Swinging Sixties, to be exact – runs through the collection in the pin-up girl silhouettes and coquettish details. Designer Jessie Zinke’s remarkable knack for color plays out in an alluring mix of punchy fruit hues, mellow pastels and eye-catching chevron prints – an appropriate complement to Carsten Höller’s exuberant, crowd-pleasing “Experience” on display a few floors below during the preview. Also like the lingerie, the tightly focused collection of high-waisted bottoms, underwire longlines, triangle tops and breezy cover ups are cleverly designed to be mixed, matched and layered into the hippest of everyday ensembles.
Stylish beachgoers won’t have to wait long to snag up Zinke swim when the collection hits specialty boutiques February 15th. For more, visit their Facebook page.
