Milan: It was a last minute decision to combine the women’s Cruise/Resort collection with the men’s S/S 13 runway show, but Miuccia Prada’s instincts are usually right. The mix of men’s and women’s looks heightened the homogenized, androgynous feel of both collections. The women’s looks were a touch more sensual than their male counterparts. A burgundy tank was an exact replica of the men’s look that preceded it, only made from fur. Fur was also used for a navy tee and a luxurious duotone coat. Aside from the themes of repetition and androgyny, there were also references to sports. Precise polos would have been at home on a tennis court, and flat slides recalled those classic Adidas sandals that all the soccer kids wore in the 90s. Striped sweatbands were paired with every look. There was even a nod to bowling with a two-tone button-up short-sleeved shirt and leather bags inspired by those used to carry bowling balls. –Joanna Manganaro
